The other two, boccia and goalball, are exclusive to the Paralympic Games.

In Boccia, participants compete individually, in pairs or in teams of three. It is somewhat comparable to jeu de boules.

One side gets six red balls, the other side gets six blue balls.

BC1 athletes throw the ball with their hands or feet while an assistant helps move their wheelchair. BC2 athletes throw unsupported, and BC3 athletes use a pointer and ramp with the support of an assistant.

The person or team with the most balls closest to the jack wins the game.

The sport made its debut at the Paralympic Games in 1984 and was originally developed for people with coordination disorders.

Goalball, first played in 1976, is a sport in which teams of six players compete against each other. However, only three players are allowed on the field at any one time.

Athletes, who must be legally blind, wear opaque blinders to ensure a fair competition.

The object of the game is to throw the ball past the other team into the net while remaining on your hands and knees.

A string is attached to the track markers so that participants can feel the lines on the field. Bells are attached to the ball so that players can follow the ball’s movements.

Because the sound of the ball is so important, coaches, substitutes and spectators must remain silent during the match.

Team GB will compete in 19 of the 22 sports, but have not qualified for blindfold football, goalball or sitting volleyball.
